South Indian filter coffee uses a metal percolator (filter). Add 2 tablespoons of medium-fine ground coffee to the top chamber. Pour boiling water (about 90°C) over the grounds. Allow the decoction to drip through over 15–20 minutes. Mix the concentrated coffee decoction with hot milk in a 1:3 ratio. Add sugar and serve in a traditional metal davara and tumbler. Serve by pouring between vessels to cool and froth.

Our coffee powder is 100% pure roasted and ground coffee with absolutely no chicory. Traditional South Indian coffee often included chicory as a filler and flavour enhancer. We offer pure coffee for those who want the authentic, unblended Kerala coffee experience. If you prefer the traditional chicory-blended version, we can accommodate that separately.

Store in an airtight container away from light, heat and moisture. Avoid storing in the refrigerator — temperature fluctuations cause condensation that degrades flavour. Once opened, coffee powder is best consumed within 3–4 weeks for peak aroma and flavour. Buy in quantities you can consume within a month.

A typical 8oz cup of South Indian filter coffee made with our powder contains approximately 80–120mg of caffeine — comparable to a standard cup of drip coffee. This is lower than espresso (150–200mg per shot) but sufficient to provide the characteristic energising alertness of morning coffee. Our Robusta component contributes higher caffeine than pure Arabica.
